Speakers’ Acceptance Letter

Dear Speaker,

Congratulations, and welcome aboard!

Our goal for BlogWorld & New Media Expo New York 2012 is to provide our attendees with valuable content and connections and make it the most successful BlogWorld ever. Your session will not only help us reach our goal, but we hope it will also go a long way in building your own personal and business brand. Over the last several years we have earned the reputation of being THE social media/new media event to attend each year. We owe that to great speakers like you.

Now that you know you’ll be speaking at BlogWorld, We need your help in making sure your talk is as good as it can possibly be. (More on that in a moment.) First,  there’s a bit of housekeeping we need to get take care of. We know there’s a lot to go over and we promise to take up as little of your time as possible. However it’s necessary and will save us all from headaches later.

IMPORTANT NOTE: All steps will be available on our SPEAKERS’ RESOURCE PAGE at http://blogworldexpo.wpengine.com/2012-nyc/speaker-resource-page/.  Please bookmark this page so you can easily access important speaker information.  You will be notified if there are any updates to the page.

6. Now that you have made it this far you have to promote your session. We are absolutely PUMPED that you will be joining us in New York. As you know, BlogWorld would not be BlogWorld without amazing speakers such as you.

We are planning on the New York show being one of the biggest and best ever. In order to make that happen, we need your help. Below are two (2) relatively easy ways you can help make this a reality:

a. Write a blog post. Ideally, we’d love it if you publish on the BlogWorld.com page, but we’ll certainly be happy with any post. Please coordinate with Deb Ng (deb@blogworldexpo.com) to get your post on our editorial calendar. Also, if you write one on your own blog, let us know so we can share!

b. Share. Share. Share. Imagine – if every speaker helped bring 5 folks along, you’ll all have an additional ~1,000 people at the conference to come see your presentations – blogging, tweeting, FB’ing, G+’ing about it! (10 = ~2,000; 20 = ~4,000 … you get the point).

c. All of the above.

If you’d like to take part as a guest in our weekly #BWEchat on Twitter, feel free to contact me at deb@blogworldexpo.com to discuss.

7.  The Twitter hashtag for BlogWorld East is #BWENY. Use it. Embrace it. Love it.

8.  You can also promote your session with the “I’m speaking” widget found here:

10.  Though you may have spoken at BlogWorld before, we’d like to add a couple of reminders for our newer presenters:

  • Never turn your presentation into a sales pitch or use your talk to promote your products or services in any way. Our attendees are very uncomfortable with this and it takes away from the educational aspect. We have a mantra here, “the stage is for teaching, the exhibit floor is for selling”.
  • If you are moderating or are participating in a panel I will be sending you another email to cover more details on how to make your session as great as it can be. Schedule at least one call with your panelists to help you make sure your session is organized and all of your panelists understand the goal of the panel. Please see this wonderful informational post by Jeremiah Owyang featuring tips on being a successful moderator.
  • Don’t make the presentation about “you” even if you’re telling “your” story. Make sure your talk is presented in a way that makes it easy for attendees to relate. They should be able to walk away thinking, “I can do this!” and “I can use X,Y and Z tomorrow!” rather than, “Wow. Wish I could do that too.”

11. As you can understand creating a schedule with the amount of content we have is very complicated, and we need your cooperation to be flexible with us. Please do not plan meetings, sight seeing trips,  or other activities until you know the date and time of your session. It is very difficult if not impossible to make changes once the schedule is set.

12. We’re respectfully requesting all speakers use our branded slides for their presentations. Please use this link to download the slides. We’ll be sending you more information regarding your presentations within a week or so, but if you have any questions please contact presentations@blogworldexpo.com and we’ll get back to you in a timely manner.

Finally, we’d like to request all of our speakers spend some time at the conference, beyond your scheduled sessions. Our attendees would really like to spend time with their favorite bloggers and influencers and it would mean a lot  to them if you could schedule some time to attend some of our networking events, parties, exhibit floor and hallway schmoozing.

Again, thank you for being a part of BlogWorld New York.  This is destined to be our biggest year yet, and we are very grateful to have you be a part of it. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at deb@blogworldexpo.com or 858-309-4747 x 103.

Please reply to this email with your confirmation and we’ll get you on the schedule. Feel free to announce your speaking engagement to all your channels.
